本首聖詩歸於教宗大聖格里高利（Pope St. Gregory the Great, 540-604）名下。但是，有人認為本首聖詩是聖阿爾坤（Alcuin，732-804）的作品。在羅馬特利騰日課，用於從聖靈降臨第四主日以及隨後的主日，直到9月27日（包括）的夜禱（Matins）所使用。在新禮，時辰祈禱中，常年期的第二週和第四周禮拜二誦讀日課所用的聖詩。在莎霖日課，它是用於聖靈降臨節後主日的夜禱（Matins）的聖詩。

Nocte surgentes vigilemus omnes, Semper in psalmis meditemur atque Viribus totis Domino canamus Dulciter hymnos,	深夜清醒， 默思圣咏， 全力歌颂上主， 唱出心底的祷声。
Ut, pio regi pariter canentes, Cum suis sanctis mereamur aulam Ingredi cæli, simul et beatam Ducere vitam.	歌颂仁慈的君王， 但愿有一天， 偕诸圣同登天廷， 获享永生。
