本首聖詩歸於大聖格里高利，主題是延續了禮拜一、禮拜二關於創造內容，本日主題是關於第四天的創造，在這一日創造天空之中的天體（創世記 1:14-19）。這首聖詩傳統上在禮拜三晚禱誦讀。在新禮，時辰祈禱之中，用於常年期的聖詠集第一週和第三週的禮拜三晚禱。在《羅馬日課經》之中，用於禮拜三的晚禱。
